KLAS Clarification: Correction to Reporting about the 2022 US Hospital Market Share Report

KLAS Clarification 

A recent MedCity News article incorrectly interpreted data from KLAS’ 2022 US Hospital Market Share report. The article implied that contract wins and losses in 2021 resulted in a net decrease in Cerner’s hospital market share. Cerner actually saw a net increase of five hospitals in 2021, though the vendor’s reported total hospital market share did change from 25% in 2020 to 24.4% in 2021. This change was due largely to corrections made to historical data and does not reflect market share shifts that occurred specifically from wins/losses in 2021. KLAS routinely adjusts historical numbers based on things like hospital closures, contract cancellations, and the identification and removal of international hospitals from the data set. The most recent review necessitated adjustments to the total number of hospitals tracked as well as to multiple vendors’ individual market shares, including Cerner’s.
