PACS - Acute Care 2008

April 1, 2008

Healthcare providers report that implementing a PACS solution streamlines efficiency, improves quality patient care, and increases cost savings. With more than 70 PACS solutions available to CIOs and imaging department directors, vendor selection is not much easier today than it was when KLAS first began monitoring PACS vendor performance in 2001.

Interest in the PACS market continues to grow, and data regarding PACS solutions is some of the most accessed in the KLAS database. In this year’s report, KLAS collected data from more than 600 respondents employed at large hospitals with 200 beds or more in order to report on current vendor performance and trends in the PACS market.

Key findings include:

  • 7% of respondents mentioned that they are considering replacing their current PACS vendor. Which vendors are they replacing?
  • 51% of respondents believe that their PACS has all needed functionality. Which PACS products provide healthcare organizations with the administrative tools, management reports, interfaces and functionality to meet their needs?
  • Half of the vendors that qualified for ranking scored above the market segment average (80.5 out of 100). The other half scored below the average. Which vendors are healthcare providers rating well? What makes them successful?

Products qualifying for ranking in the study were:

  • Agfa IMPAX
  • AMICAS Vision Series
  • Carestream (Kodak) DirectView
  • Cerner Millennium ProVision
  • DR Systems Unity
  • Emageon Enterprise Visual
  • FUJIFILM Synapse
  • GE Centricity IW (Dynamic Imaging)
  • GE Centricity PACS
  • McKesson Horizon Medical Imaging
  • Philips iSite
  • Siemens syngo Imaging

Early findings were also included for Aspyra AccessNET, Intelerad IntelePACS, Merge Healthcare Fusion, NoveRad NovaPACS, ScImage PicomEnterprise Radiology, Sectra PACS, and Siemens SIENET.
