PACS Perception 2007

April 10, 2007

KLAS interviewed a random sampling of healthcare executives to measure the perception relative to the leading Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) vendors. Participants were asked to compare the possible vendors in the market and identify key drivers in choosing a particular vendor. The results were then compared to previous studies performed in 2005 and 2003, where applicable. The purpose of this study was to understand the most likely vendors to be included by healthcare and IT professionals in today’s PACS selection process and why and how that has changed over time.

Among the key findings, we detected a more competitive market for PACS Systems. There are more vendors under consideration and the differences between vendors regarding frequency of consideration is compressing. We also found that sole source (hinting at interoperability) and cost/value are more important to those making a future decision than to those that have already decided.

The PACS Perception 2007 report not only looks at overall vendors considered, but also breaks the data down by large hospitals, community hospitals, and ambulatory/outpatient provider facilities. The report includes data and input from providers on over 30 PACS vendors; however, it drills down into the top 10 (and ties) PACS vendors considered most often overall by survey participants.
