64-Slice CT 2007

April 2, 2007

As CT functionality continues to rapidly advance to 256 slices and dual CTs, this research will help providers separate myth from fact and marketing hype from reality in order to anticipate the actual clinical effectiveness of the modality, expected performance of the Medical Equipment product related service, and the value each specific vendor will bring to bear.

The four vendors and products included in the 64-Slice CT 2007 report are:

  • GE LightSpeed VCT
  • Philips Brilliance
  • Siemens SOMATOM Sensation
  • Toshiba Aquilion

Providers experienced additional/unexpected costs that were outside the capital cost of the 64-slice CT scanner. Cardiac work flow caused providers to reconsider purchasing the 64-slice CT, and providers suggest certain research be conducted internally before acquiring a 64-slice CT.

The report investigates the functional strengths of Abdominal/Pelvic Colonography, Full Body, Head, Spine, Chest, CTA, and CCTA scans, as well as how each vendor or product performs in over forty different areas including:

  • Image Quality
  • Product Reliability
  • Field of View Coverage
  • Productivity

In addition, providers offer their advice, lessons learned, and best practices to those planning to purchase or implement a 64-slice CT. Providers share the unexpected benefits they experience and the total costs associated with their 64-slice CT.
