Does the Pain of Clinical Implementation Make Providers Feel Reluctant to Switch Vendors?

Personal trainers have a way of pushing you to your limit. They can be aggressive and even seemingly obnoxious at times, yet they have your best interest at heart. If you have been on the receiving end of their “best interests” you may have had some of these thoughts:

  • I don’t think I can do what they are asking me to do.
  • Why did I spend this kind of money?
  • My body hurts everywhere . . .
  • I’m really hungry and I don’t think I can give up my bag of potato chips.

Personal training sessions are a lot like global implementations in that they push you to your limit. Rocky implementations usually don’t end up with great EMR/PAS installations. In fact, change management is really hard on everyone involved, including the vendor. Whether you’ve had a good or a poor experience, you have likely felt the painof implementation. This pain either drives home your success or causes you to give up and relapse back into the equivalent of a potato-chip frenzy. Hopefully you can look back on your hard experience and see how far you have come.

Does this pain make providers reluctant to switch software vendors? What has been your experience with software implementations?
