In the past two years, Epic has won 92 hospitals with over 200 beds. This market growth has led to a bumper crop of Epic consulting firms. The number of Epic consulting firms since the last KLAS Epic services study has grown from 13 to 21 fully rated firms, with another 12 firms appearing with preliminary data. Most of these firms are high performing. This study measures Epic consulting engagements from the last 18 months to show how they stack up and to assist provider organizations in selecting the firm right for them.

WORTH KNOWING:

ENTERPRISE IMPLEMENTATION LEADERSHIP: IMPACT ADVISORS DELIVERS TOP PERFORMANCE, WHILE DELOITTE HAS THE MOST ENGAGEMENTS AND LARGEST PROJECTS.

Impact Advisors’ seasoned consultants and strong project-management skills contribute to their high performance. Many of Deloitte’s engagements are three to four times the size of those of most other firms in this category.Projects often expand across both clinical and revenue cycle areas. Five additional firms in this category provide exceptional service but do not have enough engagements to be fully rated. Accenture, like Deloitte, works on the largest projects, but they scored the lowest among this group.

IMPLEMENTATION SUPPORT AND STAFFING: STIFF COMPETITION; EPIC-ONLY FIRMS NORDIC, SAGACIOUS,AND VONLAY LEAD.

Of the 19 fully rated firms and 10 preliminary data firms that comprise this group, all but a few deliver high-quality service to Epic customers. Nordic, Sagacious Consultants, and Vonlay score the highest among the fully rated firms. All focus solely on Epic projects and prefer to hire consultants who have previously worked at Epic.

ADVISORY SERVICES: ASPEN ADVISORS OUTPERFORMS ALL OTHERS.

With the highest staff quality, Aspen Advisors excels at advisory services. They provide pre-implementation planning, MU assessments, and workflow-redesign services. Impact Advisors also shows a strong performance; providers praise them for staff quality and their ability to adapt their process to accommodate provider needs.

GO-LIVE SUPPORT: LEIDOS HEALTH AT THE FRONT,FOLLOWED BY SANTA ROSA CONSULTING.

Only 6 of the 33 firms listed in this study qualify as providing go-live support services, and Leidos and Santa Rosa Consulting lead in this area. Providers commend Leidos for their deep bench of qualified Epic resources and ability to react quickly to problems and staffing requests. Santa Rosa Consulting stands out for the quality of their consultants with hospital experience, as well as for their sharing of best practices and creativity with pricing.
