Computer-Assisted Coding
A Glimpse at the Future of HIM Technology

April 20, 2012

Even though the ICD-10 deadline has been pushed back to a proposed date of October 1, 2014, many providers are still looking seriously at purchasing inpatient computer-assisted coding (CAC) solutions within the next year or two. While inpatient CAC is still a young, emerging market, most providers KLAS sampled are looking at 3M, who owns by far the largest market share (50%) and considerations (73%). CAC encoder/grouper integration is very important to many providers, and 3M has three-fourths of the inpatient encoder market. It is not hard to see why 3M has a leg up on the competition.
